Oh, Trey & Shay. Your names rhyme, and you're a super sweet couple, despite Trey's anger issues. And then we have Kingston & Lana. Whew!This story - the cover & blurb sucked me in. I was super excited about this one! It turned out not to be exactly what I was expecting, but it's still a very good story! Told in alternate Trey & Shayla POV's, but we also get glimpses into Kingston & Lana, who will have their own book later, I believe. This whole group have been BFF's since childhood, and have all had stronger feelings for one another about that long, but due to circumstances not being right, they haven't made the leap until just recently. This story takes us through the beginnings of these transitions.
It wasn't as light of a read as I was expecting. There is a lot of drama going on! There is a lot of humor, too, and as I said, Trey & Shayla have a very sweet relationship. They're protective of each other & you can definitely feel their chemistry. There are some things I saw coming, and some well-kept surprises!
The things I didn't like about the story I won't share because they would be spoilers. I'll just say that there were some "wrong turns" for me as a reader, which made this a slower read (as in the amount of time it took me personally to read it, not story wise). At the end of the day, however, I DO recommend this book, definitely, because I enjoyed it & am looking forward to and planning on reading future books in the series.

So good! Always the one had a little of everything I love in my books...Trey is a total alpha & Shayla is full of sassy. So she give it right back when he was being the big alpha that I love. I love the friendship that they have in each other and in King & Lana. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR MY KINGS BOOK!
Always the One by CC Monroe was a fantastic debut! I one-clicked this simply on the cover alone, but I got so much more from it. It was unique and full of angst, hilarity and hotness! This story was one of a kind. Going in I expected the normal swoony romance story where the characters skirt around their feelings for each other until the end. But not this one, no Monroe dove right in with this friends to lovers story. Then you get the ups, downs, ends and outs of a relationship. She shared the risks and joys and the realness. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. I love stories that are so real! Monroe also captured the feelings of the characters in a very real and deep way. It wasn't superficial in any aspect. This was a wonderful read and I cannot wait for more and too see Monroe grow in her stories and writing!

Best friends to lovers don't always work, but in this case it was brilliant.
Absolutely loved the mix of their pasts being intertwined with their current journey. It was done in a sweet and unforced manner. A dream, a memory and a smile.
The storyline was sweet, edgy, funny and at times suspenseful. It was a great journey, although not always a smooth one. It was a journey you wanted to be on and wanted to see through to the end.
I cannot wait to read book 2!

This book held my heart from the beginning! Yes I said heart not my mind not my attention my HEART!!!!! It is a story beyond words... A real book with characters that make you feel every emotion. A real story that you can put yourself and the ones you love in...... That is big for me as a reader I have to be able to relate and put myself or others into the characters and their lives and I didn't have to struggle at all for that! This book is deserving of so much moire than the 5 stars we are allotted! I would recommend this book to anyone 18+due to the adult content.
Jealousy runs deep in Always the One. Shayla has loved Trey for years. Trey doesn’t do love though. He has too many insecurities and trust issues to love someone, or so he thinks. Still, that doesn’t keep him from throwing caution to the wind and taking a chance with Shayla. Though Shayla and Trey are the main characters, Shayla’s brother Kingston and her best friend Lana are always in the shadows of this story just waiting to have their own story be told.
I really enjoyed this book. There is so much chemistry between these characters and you also get the usual ups and downs that every book needs to be great. The book started getting even better for me as I worked my way to the end because I felt the suspense starting to build more when certain things were happening with different characters. I am looking forward to the next book to enjoy much more of these characters. I REALLY can’t wait to get to know more about Kingston and Lana. I know they weren’t the main characters in this one, but I confess, there were a few moments when I wanted to lock Trey and Shayla in a room and let Kings and L come out to play )
This debut novel by CC Monroe made me a fan for life. I love friends to lovers romances and she absolutely nailed this one!
This book is about the love that has formed over the years between best friends and the struggles that they each face when they take their relationship to the next level. Those insecurities and pains that weighs on one's heart doesn't have the same effect when you are "just friends" but when love is involved it takes it to a whole new level. For Trey that pain lies in his fear of abandonment. His love for Shayla almost crippled him to the point of self-destruction. Shayla has issues and fears of her own but she is one strong woman.
This story is mainly about Trey and Shayla but it also opens up the relationship between Shayla's best friend Lana and Shayla's brother Kingston, who is also Trey's best friend and business partner. Kingston and Lana's relationship is explosive and I'm anxious to see where it goes in future books.
I love watching this story evolve. The characters were so real and relatable. The chemistry between Trey and Shayla was off the charts hot and you could feel the love they had for each other. Be prepared for some very intense moments.
This book ends on a cliffhanger that has me biting my nails wanting more. Five fantastic stars!
