The biggest paradox in golf is that the harder you try to hit the ball, the worse you do so. In The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing, Michael McTeigue offers you a simple system of sequential body movements that produces a true swinging motion with every club in the bag. The result is increased distance and greater accuracy for all sizes, shapes, and ages of golfers for a minimum investment in learning time. The clarity and simplicity of McTeigue's frill-free approach to the golf swing leads the listener to a new experience of power and effortlessness. He truly shows how to build a swing you can trust and keep for life. If you love golf but have never played to your potential, here is an audiobook that you will quickly come to treasure.

The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing Curing Your Hit Impulse in Seven Simple Lessons (Audible Audio Edition) Michael McTeigue Rob Shamblin Books

I love golf but it's a frustrating sport to learn. I come from a baseball background and have struggled with an arm dominated swing, usually resulting in right pushes and slices. The correct way to swing a golf club was not obvious to me and I struggled for a long time trying to swing more inside, always focused on what my arms and hands were doing during the swing. I compared my swing to what I saw pros doing and I was putting so much effort into my swing while they seemed to be hardly trying. I did not understand how that was possible and it inspired me to search out an easier, simpler way.

Within this book you will find a step by step process of rebuilding your swing from with a focus on easy repeatability. The methodology of Effortless is essentially a body turn with very relaxed arms. It's a surprisingly simple system. I honestly did not believe it would work until I tried it for myself. It's difficult to believe one can swing a club so well, with no loss in distance, with such little effort. The reason is simple and we all know it by now: the large muscles of the legs and back generate far more speed than the upper body alone. Effortless is a system to reliably generate momentum with the lower body while keeping your arms relaxed, which will generate a huge amount of club head speed. When I first set down this path I was comfortable with the idea of losing distance if I could just hit it straighter, but there's nothing about the Effortless system that compromises distance or accuracy.

Effortless, despite its brevity, leaves little room for misinterpretation. The writing is direct and as straightforward; it reminds me of Ben Hogan's no-nonsense style. A word of caution: each lesson is fundamental to those that follow it. It's tempting, but incorrect, to read through this book in a few sittings and try to apply it to your game. I made this mistake myself as I was anxious to improve. This approach will fail as it would with any golf instruction (book or otherwise). Many of the negative reviews gave the impression that they attempted to breeze through the material. Improvement will only come with patient study and a lot of practice. It takes time to transfer the written word to your mind, understand it fully, and commit that to muscle memory.

Effortless is the foundation of my game. It's more than just a book about how to swing a club; it's an approach to the game of golf that is free of stress. Many books can teach you how to swing a club better. Effortless will make you a capable ball striker and change your whole mindset on the course. This book will teach you how to be relaxed when you swing a club and that feeling will naturally translate to a more relaxed game overall. It's difficult to feel rushed or stressed when your swing is so pure and easy. If the idea of playing relaxed rounds of golf with a swing you can rely on appeals to you, buy this book now and never look back.

The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing Curing Your Hit Impulse in Seven Simple Lessons (Audible Audio Edition) Michael McTeigue Rob Shamblin Books Reviews

This is an incredibly well-written book! It is difficult to express ideas simply and clearly in prose and this book does that superbly. Mr. McTeigue has a gift for communicating in words that convey laser-sharp images to the reader. Even better, he is able to apply this gift for clear writing to the golf swing (for which he also clearly has a gift). There are, I'm sure, plenty of amateur golfers who are good enough to need instruction in how to increase lag in the downswing or how to work the ball left or right. However, I suspect there are many more of us who are unable to begin our downswing from the ground up and, instead, yank on the club with our arms, casting the club from the top and spinning our shoulders around while our torso and legs are unable to contribute much, if anything, to the shot. It is frustrating and somewhat less than elegant! The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing starts from a very basic "lighthouse turn", which will result in an epiphany for many (this is so simple, why didn't I know this 30 years ago!), and builds the swing from there. If the steps are patiently followed, there is an outstanding chance you will rediscover the joy in this great game. Yes, it really is starting over, but, as is attributed to Einstein, the definition of insanity is doing things as you've always done them and expecting different results. Nothing else I've ever read makes this "starting over" process seem so easy or so desirable. Though this book is very easy to read, I continue to re-read it (now on about my eighth time) and each time I find another key sentence or concept that I hadn't noticed (or properly appreciated) before that helps improve the newly forming picture in my brain of what my golf swing is becoming. Bottom line this book is brilliant!
This is my first book review. I have written this review because this book has helped me hit the ball further, straighter, and more consistently than any other book I have read, and I have read all the most popular books. I’m also confident that this book will help you whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player like me. I’m 64 years old and have been playing for 52 years and I currently have 5.9 index handicap.

All great golf books explain that a good golf swing starts with a one piece takeaway using body, shoulders, and arms together, the arms come up, and the downswing begins with the lower body shifting the weight to the target leg and turn through to the finish. But they really don’t explain the steps to produce this type of swing as well as Michael McTeigue does.

If you follow the keys to the Effortless Golf Swing Michael lays out, and in the sequence of body motions, and the drills he asks you to practice, you will hit the ball better! Read the whole book. It’s a quick read. Don’t skip any of the drills like the” Lighthouse” turn which may seem like a beginners drill. It isn’t! It gives you the “feelings” of how the windup/coil should feel and how the shifting of weight should feel. These feelings and motions are building blocks to the swing itself. So don’t skip it!

I learn by feel and visually. So if you learn like me, I suggest you also purchase Michael’s “The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing - in Eight Easy Lessons.” Using the two together will accelerate your learning.

I enjoy playing with all types of golfers with different skill levels, and when anyone asks me about my swing, I never hesitate to suggest they buy this book if they want to understand what you are supposed to do in the swing and how to do it. I hope this review helps, and I wish you well on your journey in becoming a better golfer!
