In the ever present dusk of Inbetween, Kara Hart wakes up dirty and alone with the memory of a girl named Dylan. She remembers meeting Dylan and how her heart beat when Dylan touched her face, but nothing else. When Kara is sent to Demitar, the evil ruler of Inbetween, the truth is revealed. She is Dylan's Guardian and neither of them are who they thought they were. Set in a darker version our own world, Morning Rising follows Kara as she tries to save Dylan from Demitar's clutches. She is given three days to find Dylan and get her out of Inbetween before she belongs to Demitar forever. Memories must be regained and powers restored if they have a chance of escaping. Each memory and sighting of Dylan helps Kara remember the love they once shared. If only she can help Dylan remember before it's too late.

Morning Rising is fantasy that takes place both in our human world and in a parallel universe which is made up of three separate kingdoms: Daylands, Nightlands and Inbetween. Kara, the main character, starts out believing she is just an average teenage girl in love with another girl, Dylan, who she thinks she met by coincidence. She soon discovers that she and Dylan are not human and that they have been in each other's lives from a very early age, and have been fated to be together through a powerful bond of love which, in fact, makes Kara Dylan's protector. Through Kara's flashbacks we see how the relationship between the two girls developed in the human world, where they had no recollections of their earlier lives. Through her view of current events we see what happens as Kara attempts to rescue Dylan from the ruler of Inbetween, who seeks to harness Dylan's powers to conquer the other two kingdoms. I don't want to reveal too much about the plot, but I found the story gripping and felt compelled to read on to see what happened next. I really liked the relationship between the girls, especially since neither was portrayed as perfect, and Dylan in particular made some truly questionable choices. I also loved Baron and other allies who take great personal risks in order to help Kara in her quest. This is the first story in a series, and I'm very much looking forward to reading the next installment.Product details

Morning Rising Guardian Of Morning Book 1 Samantha Boyette 9781105254161 Books Reviews
When I opted to read Morning Rising (Guardian Of Morning Book 1) by Samantha Boyette I wasn't sure what to expect. She's a new author to me. But the premise of her fantasy novel intrigued me. I sat down on my couch and started the book. At first I was baffled. Kara Hart, a teenager, doesn't know what's going on except she's in a different world and she has three days to save a girl named Dylan. At first, I wondered if Boyette forgot that readers can't read her mind. Then I started to enjoy her ploy. It forced me as a reader to become active in the story. Not only did Kara have to figure out what was going on, so did I. I became concerned about the main character, Kara, and started to cheer for her.
Slowly I learned that Dylan is no ordinary girl. She is in fact a princess and Kara is her Guardian. The Guardian has just a few days to rescue Dylan from Inbetween and to take her back to their world. Along the way, Kara finds helpers for her quest.
To add an interesting twist to the story, Kara and Dylan like each other. In fact, while this is a fantasy, it is also a love story between two teenage girls. And it demonstrates the power of love.
At times I felt a little uncomfortable about some of the mature subjects for this young adult book. I see why the author included the scenes but it did make for some difficult reading at times. On the whole, I enjoyed this novel. It was a quick and fun read. I read it in one sitting so it kept me interested until the very end. I should note that this book is the first part of a trilogy. If you hate books that end with a cliffhanger this isn't the book for you. If you enjoy an entertaining young adult fantasy novel about two teenage girls in love, why not give it a try.
fantasy, paranormal romance..... etc... I like this genre. The author mixed perfectly the fantasy world and the romance.
The two main characters are easy to accept, and learn to love.
The plot is nothing new, but well written, there is action, emotions, and enough to keep you wanting for more,
even when the book is over.
I will buy book two
Samantha has shown herself to be a really good storyteller with this debut novel. Her characters are vivid, and the world of Inbetween is real and vibrant. The plot runs smoothly and the action was well paced. I was never bored and I look forward to the next installment in this series.
My favourite aspect of Inbetween was how it truly is a modern city, but unlike the cities we know, this is an otherworldly place as well. It is the realm of the fae, so modern technology and culture are just slightly 'off'. On reading the descriptions of Inbetween one can catch glimpses of how such a place came to be, and it is believable
Today's review is on Morning Rising by Samantha Boyette
When I first began reading Morning Rising I was hesitant because I thought it would be to much like a lesbian love story. Though the two main character's; Dylan and Kara, do love each other and become a couple, it was far from what I had expected.
Dylan is a Princess in the Dayworld, and Kara is her Guardian. They were both sent to live in the human world for their protection, only now Kara has somehow traveled to the Inbetween without many memories. The only thing she even remotely remembers is Dylan. Now she needs to get all of her memories back in order to save Dylan from herself and those out to control her powers.
There are wonderfully fantastic beings in Inbetween. From creatures that resemble trolls, to those that look almost bird like, to the goblin Glint who aids Kara through the book. Each scene is eloquently described in detail, making it easy for the reader to see into the imagination of Boyette's world.
There were some minor errors in grammar, and a few instances where one character's name was used in the wrong place, but all and all it was an enjoyable book. And yes, it was a love story. A story that teaches that love spans even across worlds.
3.5 of 5 stars
